During the prior funding period, the Albrecht lab made significant progress in its research on lysosomal signaling and arginine methylation. Over the past two years, this CRF-funded work has generated important new insights, providing a broader understanding of cystinosis and suggesting that the disease extends beyond lysosomal cystine accumulation.
This research has also led to important scientific contributions and recognition. The recently published study, “PFKM Governs Metabolic Shifts Throughout Skeletal Muscle Differentiation,” appeared in Nature Metabolism in 2026 and is available on the 2026 Published Studies webpage. Additional discoveries related to cystinosis kidney mechanisms are expected to be published this summer in Nature Cell Biology.
In recognition of her pioneering work exploring lysosomal signaling through arginine methylation, Dr. Albrecht also received an award from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.
