Progress Report on the Translational Value of SGLT2 Inhibitors in Cystinosis

In the spring of 2025, CRF awarded a $296,000 research grant to Olivier Devuyst, MD, PhD, at the University of Zurich, Switzerland, and Francesco Emma, MD, at Bambino Gesù Children’s Hospital, in Rome, Italy, for their study “Understanding the SGLT2 inhibitor dapagliflozin on proximal tubular cellular pathways.” This project builds on previous studies demonstrating that mTORC-1 hyperactivation plays a key role in the pathogenesis of cystinosis-associated kidney disease. This recent progress report addresses the progress toward specific aim #2. Read the full progress report.
